Launch of The Life and Scientific Legacy of George Porter
On 30 October 2006, Imperial College Press (ICP) held a book launch for The Life and Scientific Legacy of George Porter, edited by Professor David Phillips and Professor James Barber. Attended by approximately 50 guests, the event was held in the lavish surroundings of the Council Room in the Rector's House at Imperial College. The launch began with a presentation by Professor Phillips, covering some of Lord Porter's eventful life, and continued with Professor Barber's presentation of some of Lord Porter's scientific achievements. Both presentations were warmly received by a diverse audience that ranged from research students to Fellows of the Royal Society who had known and respected Lord Porter. As an honor for ICP, Lord Porter's widow, Lady Stella Porter, also attended the event and enjoyed the presentations given by the editors. The evening continued with a wine and cheese reception and an opportunity for guests to mingle.
